Big news from the EV world in Germany! The Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Protection (BMWK) has officially closed the chapter on the electric vehicle subsidy program, effective December 16. As of Monday (December 18), no new applications for EV subsidies are being accepted.

Why the Change?
Budget constraints have driven this decision responding to a recent ruling by Germany’s Federal Constitutional Court. They nixed the use of 60 billion euros initially allocated for an epidemic response fund, creating a 17 billion euro gap in the 2024 federal budget. Consequently, subsidies for electric vehicles, solar energy, and more got the budget cut axe.

The Impact So Far:
Reports reveal Germany invested a whopping 10 billion euros in subsidies for approximately 2.1 million electric vehicles since 2016. While the subsidy program was set to run until 2024, it has been halted due to recent budget constraints. Despite this pause, Germany remains committed to getting 15 million electric vehicles on the road by 2030.

Charge Ninja’s Stance:
Here at Charge Ninja, we’re all about rolling with the punches. Changes in the subsidy landscape won’t hit the brakes on our commitment to providing you with cutting-edge charging solutions. We’re geared up for innovation and ready to adapt to whatever the road ahead brings.

In a remarkable turn of events, the KFW442 subsidy, a 100 million euros initiative by the German government to boost solar power for electric cars, saw its first wave of applications close within a mere 24 hours. The swift depletion of this initial fund underscores the enthusiasm and rapid adoption of electric vehicles (EVs) in the country.

Proposed by German Transport Minister Volker Wissing in June, the KFW442 subsidy was part of a larger initiative to accelerate the adoption of electric vehicles and aid the transportation industry in achieving ambitious emission reduction goals. Set to issue an additional 200 million euros in grants in 2024, this subsidy specifically targets households looking to invest in solar power solutions for their EVs.

The KFW442 subsidy, which can reach up to 10,200 euros, mandates a few key requirements for applicants:

–       Purchase a charging station with a minimum power capacity of 11 kW, with an additional subsidy for stations supporting two-way charging (V2G).

–       Invest in and install a solar system boasting a peak capacity of at least 5 kWp.

–       Acquire and install a battery storage system with a minimum capacity of 5 kWh.

The surge in applications, with 33,000 submissions on the very first day, signifies a strong public response to the program and a growing interest in sustainable energy solutions.

Germany has a history of successful EV subsidy programs, with predecessors like KFW440 and KFW441. The evolution from KFW440, focusing on household electric vehicle charging stations, to KFW442’s emphasis on holistic solar storage and charging systems demonstrates the government’s commitment to refining policies and supporting a diverse range of EV infrastructure.

At Charge Ninja, we’ve been at the forefront of this transformative wave, collaborating with partners to construct residential and commercial solar storage and charging systems globally. Our portfolio includes innovative solutions such as solar carports and solar trees, effectively harnessing green energy and optimizing overall energy systems.

Electric vehicles are becoming more popular in Europe. In recent years, we have seen more discussions about EV charging infrastructure. hashtagChargeNinja has discovered current trends in European hashtagchargingstation through cooperation with our customers.

1. Solar – Storage – Charging System. It comprises hashtagsolar power generation, energy storage batteries, and charging stations. It can use excess electricity generated by solar energy to charge hashtagevs ; this becomes possible as more European households install solar on their roofs. Only charging stations with solar expansion functions can occupy more market shares shortly. Germany’s hashtagKFW442 subsidy in late September was designed to provide financial support for solar-charged electric vehicles.

2. Information Visualization. More people will drive EVs to their company, and companies are willing to install charging stations in parking lots for their employees. But this process will raise questions about how to calculate electricity bills, how to pay them, and how to file taxes. This requires that the charging stations must have monitoring functions. Recently, hashtagChargeNinja met a German user. His EV belongs to the company, but he usually charges it at home. He chose our charging station because ours has a built-in certified electricity meter and good monitoring functions.

3. Load Management. As the number of electric vehicles increases, EV charging has an increasing impact on the power grid. To avoid the effect of charging on the power hashtaggrid during peak load periods, intelligent load management has become a significant trend. Innovative load management effectively manages power demand, protects the power network, and reduces charging speed when needed. Our home wall-mounted charging stations have built-in load management functions, which can prioritize during charging.

4. Two-way Charging. also known as hashtagV2G charging station. It uses idle electric vehicles as mobile energy storage devices to respond to the demand side of the grid, provide emergency power supply and grid stability, and realize interaction with the grid. We believe it will become more and more popular shortly.

We have witnessed a surge in balcony solar systems demand since 2022. After the German government implemented simplified regulations on small solar system installation on balconies, this plug-in solar power dramatically lowered our electricity bills and reduced our dependence on grid power.

Typically, the balcony system consists of 2 solar panels mounted outside the balcony. One micro-inverter converts DC power to AC power, and one AC cable feeds the electricity into our house. We can maximize the utilization by using household appliances around midday when the system generates the most electricity.

However, one of the disadvantages of the current system is that the electricity generated can only be consumed by us during midday, which is when we use the least amount of electricity. Is there a solution that we can store the extra electricity during the daylight and use it at night?

Balcony Storage System Wiring – ZENDURE

The balcony energy storage system would be one of the solutions. Several companies, like Anker, Ecoflow, and Zendure, have launched similar solutions.

Ecoflow power station users can buy the PowerStream microinverter kit to upgrade from their existing DELTA portable power stations. Anker and Zendure offer a balcony battery kit compatible with 99% of current balcony solar systems. The logic of these systems is similar.

During the daytime, when the sun is out, the energy generated from the solar panels flows through the storage battery and microinverter. The power will be converted to electricity, which our home appliances can use. If there is any excess energy, it can be stored in the batteries. At night, the extra energy stored in the batteries can power our house when it is our peak demand for electricity. That solution is three times more efficient than current ordinary balcony solar solutions.

Charge Ninja provides various balcony solar solutions to our customers.

1. Traditional plug-and-play balcony solar system. We offer different kinds of solar panels (Black frame, All black) and micro inverter kits (up to 800w). We now supply lightweight solar panel kits for users to finish the installation in minutes with zip ties.
